Dear Westvale Families,

I hope that you survived Mother Nature’s “gift” last night and have managed to shovel yourselves out! This is just a reminder that Term 1 Report Cards go home with students tomorrow, Wednesday, February 17th at the end of the day. You will note that on all Grades 1 through 6 reports, Mathematics is now one mark (instead of five) with the NEW Curriculum.

In September 2020, the Ministry of Education implemented the new 2020 Mathematics Curriculum. One of the changes that came with the revised curriculum is how mathematics marks are reported in the report card. Previously, students were assigned grades based on individual mathematical strands; with the new curriculum, students are now assigned one overall mark for mathematics. The change recognizes, values and emphasizes the interconnected nature of the strands in the mathematics curriculum. The comments section will describe significant strengths demonstrated by the student and identify next steps for improvement. When appropriate, teachers may make reference to particular mathematics curriculum strands in their comments.

Have a wonderful evening and we look forward to seeing all of our in-person learners back tomorrow!
