Westvale Families and Caregivers
As we enter into the Thanksgiving weekend, we would like to thank the Westvale community for all the support shown to the school, our students and our educators. We are grateful to be educators in such a supportive school community.
Here are some updates about events held during the first five weeks of school.
The Terry Fox Run was a wonderful success. Westvale students ran for about one hour on September 22 and we raised $786 for the Terry Fox Foundation to continue cancer research.
School Council Used Book Sale was held this past Wednesday and Thursday. The students thoroughly enjoyed looking at the donated books and every student chose at least one book. Thank you for your generosity in donating books and donating funds to the school council. Westvale School Council was able to raise $1249.65 to use for future school activities. Thanks to the several parent volunteers who assisted with the used book sale.
Junior Intramural Soccer is currently being offered by Westvale teachers during nutrition breaks. Approximately 80 students are actively participating. Thanks to the teachers for being referees.
With school buses on the road every school day, we appreciate when Westvale drivers look out for the students. This is a friendly reminder to stop and wait for buses when their flashing lights and stop sign are out.
A number of items are now located in Westvale’s “Lost and Found” for students. Please speak with your child to look in the wooden bins outside the gymnasium if they are missing a sweatshirt, water bottle and so on. We will be donating any unclaimed items to charities on October 21.
Here are some upcoming events to keep on your child’s schedule.
October 14 – Photo Day – A paper letter was sent home earlier this week outlining the photos taken by LifeTouch. All students are individually photographed on October 14. The picture proofs are sent home with your child when received by the school. You may then review the pictures and make any purchases at mylifetouch.ca. Please notify the school, if you do not want your child photographed.
Pizza Days – We will begin selling pizza every other Friday starting on October 14. You will need to order through School-day. Please look for another message coming via School-day to order. Orders up until the Winter Break are due by October 12 at 9 am. We are purchasing pizza from Panagos and we are offering cheese pizza, pepperoni pizza and Halal chicken pizza. A slice of pizza may be purchased for $1.75 through School-day. For the six Fridays of pizza, you would pay $10.50.
Thank you for your continued support.
