Nut-free and Scent-free School

Westvale Public School is a nut-free and scent-free school. Sabrina’s Law passed by the Ontario Government in 2005 requires that no nut products including peanut butter and Nutella etc. be brought into a school. This protects students and staff with anaphylactic reactions.

Peanut free food spreads should not be included in lunches. It may be too difficult to distinguish the difference between this product and the allergen for staff and students, thus causing a risk in its use in our school.

Due to anaphylaxis and food allergies, we also do not accept treats from families for classes. This includes special days and birthdays.

Volunteer Opportunity

Are you looking for a way to make a difference at our school? Did you know that Westvale Public School  has a Strong Start program? Strong Start is a charitable organization that helps young children learn to read.

Join the Westvale team in helping children in Grade 1 and SK learn to read. As a Strong Start volunteer, you can expect to make a meaningful and lasting difference in the life of a child. Volunteers work one-on-one with a child in a local school, playing carefully designed games and activities. Sign up for a Part 1 and Part 2 training session.

Find out more on the Strong Start website.  Martha Braun is the  Strong Start Site Coordinator for Westvale Public School.
