Westvale is a busy place of learning. Over the past few weeks there have been many class field trips and interactive opportunities to help bring the learning alive.

Carnival was very successful last week as we celebrated French Canadian culture. We would like to thank  the School Council members who distributed hot chocolate to students. We were lucky to have snow for the outdoor activities. Check out our Westvale Instagram account to see some photos of the event. We are at “wsvwrdsb”.

Kindergarten Registration

Please remind Westvale neighbours that Kindergarten registration for the 2024-25 school year is open. Children born in 2020 should be registering for school now. Families should visit www.wrdsb.ca to begin the registration process. When online registration is completed, Westvale will contact the family to continue the school level process.

Listed below are the school events happening between now and March Break There will be no school from March 11 to 15 for March Break.

Kindness Bracelets

From February 26 until March 1, we are holding a fundraiser for Nutrition for Learning at Westvale. “Kindness Gram” bracelets will be sold at first break. Students fundraise by purchasing a single bracelet for $2, or 3 for $5. All proceeds support Nutrition for Learning throughout the region and it’s a way to show kindness to others in our school.

Pink Shirt Day

Wednesday, February 28 is Pink Shirt Day. We will take a stand against bullying of all kinds by wearing pink that day. Bullying has no place in our schools or in our community. Pink Shirt Day is an opportunity for us to come together and make a difference in the lives of those around us.

Maycourt Puppeteers

On Thursday, February 29 our Kindergarten and Primary classes will be participating in a one hour show made up of three puppet plays.

  1. Jim and the Beanstalk – demonstrates caring and sharing
  2. The Modern Story of the 3 Billy Goats Gruff – demonstrates compromising and problem solving and uses rhyming words
  3. Old MacDonald – fun audience participation

Our participation will help support the May Court Club emergency Food Box Program in Waterloo Region schools.

Ekhaya Drumming

On March 8 a band that features the sounds of Africa, the Caribbean and Acadia will be performing at Westvale. It will be a drumming and storytelling presentation for students. The classes will be divided into two separate presentations of Primary (including Kindergarten) and Junior students.
