On this snowy afternoon, we hope you are safely at home as you read some information about the December events at Westvale Public School.  Thank you for taking the time to read about the events and important reminders for our Westvale families.

Cards for Meals on Wheels

Several classes at Westvale Public School have been creating cards for senior clients of Meals on Wheels. Westvale P.S. is part of their 2024 Holiday Card Campaign. Our students’ cards will be included in the  300-350 meals that go out each day to clients in the community. The Meals on Wheels clients always express gratitude when they receive our cards as it helps brighten their meals.

Food Drive for the Food Bank of Waterloo Region

Westvale Public School is proud to continue our tradition of kindness and caring with our Annual Winter Food Drive in support of the Food Bank of Waterloo Region.  The last year has been challenging for many in our community with the highest number of people accessing services from the Food Bank in its 40 year history. The Food Bank of Waterloo Region continues to ensure that vulnerable populations have the food they need with your support.

Last year we collected over 700 pounds of food for the Food Bank. This year, the needs are even greater.   From December 9-13 before and after school we will be collecting non-perishable food donations at the Tarmac Gym Doors.  If you are not at the school, or wish to donate money to the Food Bank of Waterloo Region instead, please follow this link:

As always the generosity of our community is overwhelming and we wish to thank you in advance for your support. We are also grateful for the staff members who make up the Food Drive Team for organizing the event.

Spirit Wear

The order for the Westvale Wolves Spirit Wear arrived. Students will bring home any purchased items tomorrow. If you requested earlier that you would pick up the items for gifts, please reach out to the office at wsv@wrdsb.ca to arrange a pick up time.

Winter Assembly

On December 18 students will be participating in a Winter Assembly. It will be a fun sing-along assembly to build school spirit and celebrate the winter season.  Please talk to your children about how they may be participating in the assembly.

The performance for parents will begin at 11:50 am and will be about an hour in length. Parents are asked to sign in as visitors to the school at the side door by the gym and remain for the whole assembly. We have arranged for extra seating for parents and the children will be coming into the gym for their class performance and then going back to their classroom. Students will watch other classes perform in the dress rehearsal earlier in the morning.

Families are asked to be respectful participants and not take photos or videos during the assembly. We do not have permission from all of our parents to record their children.

December 22 will be “Comfy, cozy day” for the school as well as the final day for the Fall Pizza Order. Students may wear their comfortable clothes that day.

Lost and Found

From December 17 to 19, we will set out all the items found in our school’s Lost and Found on tables by the gym. Students will have a chance to look through the items. Families and caregivers are welcome to look when they attend the Winter Assembly or come after school (3:20 to 3:35 pm) on those dates (Dec.17 to 19) to double check for their children’s belongings.

Belongings brought home

On December 20 students will be bringing home all of their personal belongings such as indoor shoes and any clothing they may be storing at school. Pencil cases and personal desk supplies may remain at school. Our custodians will be working hard over the two weeks to clean hallways and classrooms thoroughly.

We will return from the Winter Break on January 6 and indoor shoes and any necessary extra clothing should be sent to school with students at that time.
