From April 17 to 20, Westvale is participating in Earth Week activities.  The Green Team of students is promoting simple activities to better our planet throughout the week.

Here are some of the things we look forward to learning more about in the next week from the Green Team.

  •  At home and school, turn off lights when you leave a room and  pick up garbage you find on the ground.
  • Walk to school instead of driving
  • Bring in used batteries and dried out markers to the school to help keep these items out of the landfill.
  • Take 5 minute showers instead of long showers and long baths.
  • Start or continue to compost kitchen waste.

On Thursday, April 20 Westvale will participate in a School Yard Clean Up.  If it rains, we’ll do the clean up on Monday, April 24. We want to show how much we care for our school property and respect our natural environment.

Also on April 20, we encourage everyone to wear Blue and Green to show we respect the Earth.  We will be learning about Earth Day by watching videos, reading books, and doing activities too.

Throughout the spring, classes will be participating in growing seeds and the Green Team will be helping with the vegetable gardens and front gardens at the schools.

The Westvale Community Association is also organizing an Earth Day Clean up on April 23.  They would like to celebrate Earth Day by showing love to Westvale’s park and trails!  On Sunday, April 23 bring your friends and family to help clean up around the neighbourhood. Gloves and garbage bags will be provided.  Please meet at Red River Park off Middlebury at 1:00. In case of rain, this event will not run. Check the Westvale Community Association Facebook page for more details (https://www.facebook.com/WestvaleCA).

Thank you for talking to our child about Earth Week and consider attending the Science Fair on Wednesday April 19 at 6:30 pm. Learning about Science is a big part of Earth Week!
